PATINA SUMATRA | CIGAR REVIEW

JANUARY 8, 2023 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

PATINA SUMATRA BRONZE (6 x 52)

WRAPPER: ECUADORIAN SUMATRA

BINDER: CONNECTICUT BROADLEAF

FILLER: USA, NICARAGUA

A very smooth and clean draw. “Super clean here, Dave.” That’s a Late Night with David Letterman reference. Don’t worry about it.

The Sumatra offers a touch of spice, which lays the foundation for wood, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate.

Leather hits a bit hard on the retrohale, and it also lingers quite heavily on the palate. Bits of walnut on the finish too.

The draw went from nice and smooth to rather stiff, and I now find myself having to take three draws just to get things flowing. Bummer. Maybe it’ll clear up.

Can’t fault that burn and ash though.

And, with the tap of that first ash, the draw loosens back up, and a nice lightly sweentened tea note arrives. It also dances off the foot nicely.

The profile remains fairly consistent throughout with any rough edges smoothing out as we move along. Some raisin and prune even show up. Nice.

The leather backs off of the retrohale and finish, offering a much nicer and more enjoyable spice and sweetness to take the lead.

Clean as a whistle and quite enjoyable.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 30 mins.

RATING: 3.25 / 4 - Super clean here, Dave.
