CAVALIER GENÈVE BII VISO JALAPA | CIGAR REVIEW

FEBRUARY 20, 2022 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

CAVALIER GENÈVE BII VISO JALAPA TORO (6 x 54)

WRAPPER: NICARAGUAN VISO JALAPA

BINDER: NICARAGUAN HABANO

FILLER: NICARAGUAN HABANO

Coffee, dark chocolate, slightly sweetened tea, and smoked maple flow from Viso’s first few effortless draws. Excellent smoke output.

Sweetened coffee, sweetened tea, and a touch of spice reside on the finish. I say “sweetened” tea because it’s not a full-blown southern sweet tea. People can be testy about that.

The retrohale brings an interesting combination of coffee and wood. Much what I suppose I might imagine if coffee grounds were injected into a piece of oak. Not that I’ve imagined that. Seems like a weird thing to just randomly imagine. Anyway.

Viso appears to be a slow smoker. Could be here awhile. Not complaining.

The burn line makes a near razor sharp line around a toothy, oily wrapper. Makes for a clean break from a solid ash.

Viso remains consistent to this point with the occasional addition of milk chocolate every so often. Not a bit of harshness.

Coffee, dark chocolate, and dark stone fruit work to darken Viso’s output. Darkness. Cream hits at the end of the exhale.

Coffee, wood, and dark stone fruit rise from the foot smoke.

Coffee, mixed nuts, and milk chocolate flow cleanly from the retrohale.

The finish lingers with mild coffee, sweetened tea, and subtle spice. Every time I hear the word linger, I’m reminded of the Cranberries’ song “Linger”. I always liked them. A band that I never thought could be compared to another band. They were the Cranberries, and that’s who they sounded like.

Their drummer, Fergal Lawler, is another one of my favorite drummers. Completely unique and unbelievably supportive of the song. Drummers who put the song first are my favorite. The fireworks are cool, but drummers who play their role perfectly have something undeniable. Lawler has that.

A lot of people want to be the lead singer. Drummers don’t care about that. Did everything flow well? Yes. Then the drummer did his job. Who cares about the spotlight?

Apparently, I’m writing about music more. Good cigars tend to do that to me at times.

A few minor burn touch-ups are required to keep everything moving together, as the wrapper pulls away from the body a few times. Nothing major.

Cream begins to influence coffee and fruit, lightening Viso’s mood up a bit. Darkness begins to fade as I reach the gold diamond. Classy touch.

A burst of sweetened oak flows through. A burst of pizza crust follows a few draws later. Weird. Nice. Weirdly nice?

Fruit pushes through the retrohale after lingering just a bit towards the end of the pull, waiting for its moment at the end.

Smooth coffee now dominates the finish.

Back to fruit. As I continue to smoke through the end, fruit begins to subtly embed itself and its sweetness in everything.

Viso reminds me of aftershow chats where people try to figure out why a song or concert was so good. It just felt good. Who made it feel that way? The drummer.

SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 52 mins.

RATING: 3.25 / 4 - No spotlight needed.
