CASDAGLI CIGARS DAUGHTERS OF THE WIND WIDE CHURCHILL | CIGAR REVIEW

FEBRUARY 3, 2022 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC

CASDAGLI CIGARS DAUGHTERS OF THE WIND WIDE CHURCHILL (5 x 55)

(LIMITED EDITION SMALL BATCH CIGAR EXCLUSIVE)

WRAPPER: ECUADOR

BINDER: ECUADOR

FILLER: PERU, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, NICARAGUA

Dark, dirty wood, burnt vanilla, and some spice provide the initial impressions of Wide. Sounds kind of like Wade. The draw is the epitome of effortless, as has been my experience with nearly every Casdagli cigar I’ve had.

The physical feel of this cigar is smooth as butter, heavy in the hand, and solid. Its solidity makes for a tightness that doesn't affect the draw, but I wonder if it will challenge the wrapper's integrity. Enough worrying. Moving on.

The retrohale pushes out leather with black licorice at the end. The finish mimics.

Wood and sugary sweetness flow from the foot smoke.

Leather and touches of spice take the reins. Sweet tobacco trots around a bit.

Burns slow but fairly even.

Raisin drifts my way. Sweetness floods the palate as I take a swig of water. Now we’re waking up.

Coffee blends with raisin, which repeats itself in the retrohale with the addition of wood. The finish sits quietly with smooth coffee and raisin.

The wrapper develops a small split, which I hope Wide will burn through. The ash hangs on for days. Well, “days” might be an exaggeration. Anyway.

Baked bread makes a showing. I suppose “baked” is good, otherwise it would be dough. Raisin, wood, and semi-sweet chocolate join the mix. Black cherry plays pattycake off in the distance. Or is it pat-a-cake? Patty-cake? Whatever.

Sweetness, akin to cinnamon and sugar toast, pour from the retrohale.

Coffee and leather intertwine, separate, intertwine, and separate again on the finish, and as the finish continues to linger, black licorice settles in.

Wide galloped right through the split in the wrapper. I feel like I’ve missed the opportunity to use more horse references.

Another tiny split develops on top of a tiny bump in the wrapper. Tiny.

Coffee, vanilla, and nutmeg flow through a slow pull. That was good. Raisin is still rockin’ it.

Dark, and I mean dark, chocolate and coffee hit the retrohale and finish. Vanilla sticks to the back of my teeth.

Wide provides a worthy ending to a solid story, and it does so without kicking you in the face.

SMOKE TIME: 2 hrs. 21 mins.

RATING: 3.25 / 4 - Solid story.
