APRIL 28, 2022 - PHIL KURUT, COMEDY - CIGARS - MUSIC
CAO PILÓN AÑEJO ROBUSTO (5 1/2 x 54)
WRAPPER: ECUADORIAN SUMATRA
BINDER: HONDURAN HABANO
FILLER: NICARAGUA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
From light up, I detect some earth, sweetness, salt, and slightly charred wood. Dark earth drops from the retrohale, and it also quickly waltzes across the finish, leaving very subtle spice to sit solo.
When I first looked at this cigar’s band, I was immediately reminded of Cousin It from The Addams Family. I can’t unsee it, so for the remainder of this review, I’ll be referring to this cigar as Cousin It. Anyway.
Cousin It has a slightly resistant draw with a good smoke output. The burn seems as though it’s going to perform fine. Hopefully, I didn’t jinx it. I have a habit of doing that. Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything about the burn yet. Oh well.
All the players from before continue on, now adding a bit of creaminess. Cousin It’s ash hangs on well. Solid and partially sheathed. Another draw introduces some cinnamon as the smoke exits into the air. Charred wood transitions into a pleasant sweet oak.
The foot smoke produces aromas of wood, cinnamon, spice, and touches of chocolate covered fruit.
Cousin It introduces some banana. Yeah, banana. Cool. Earth, cinnamon, and coffee play the primary roles. Very well-balanced.
Caramel and toffee switch spots on the finish, giving dark earth and coffee an added bit of sweetness.
Coffee and the subtlest of spice rest on the finish. Banana adds some sweetness. Understated.
A significant burn touch-up keeps everything moving along smoothly. Only one so far, so no big deal.
As I go to snag a picture of Cousin It, I fumble. Dang it. It was a nice ash. You’ll just have to trust me.
Pushing most of the sweetness aside as I finish my time with Cousin It, coffee, earth, and leather lead the way. Oak sticks around for the finale, passing through every so often.
The retrohale offers smooth flowing coffee, tea, and tobacco, complementing each other very nicely and allowing one another to finish their thoughts completely.
Coffee maintains its position on the finish, leaving only a little room for spice and sweetness, still mixing together well.
Smoke output increases slightly, filling in missed corners of the room.
Cousin It proved to be good company.
SMOKE TIME: 1 hr. 43 mins.
RATING: 3.25 / 4 - Cousin It can’t be unseen.
